Jasmin Zorlu established her own millinery label in 1992, after graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in Art History and Studio Art. In her junior year, she took a course in Millinery offered by the theatrical department and immediately fell in love with the art. After graduation, she moved to New York City, assisting the hatter Rod Keenan and collaborating with artists, filmmakers and costume designers on headwear for them. She followed a degree program in Accessory Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, moving to the West coast for a brief foray into footwear design with Esprit de Corp.
While living in San Francisco, Jasmin collaborated with well-known hat company Goorin Brothers, developing new silhouettes by taking traditional fabric hat styles and hybridizing them, creating best-sellers.
Jasmin Zorlu specializes in creating handmade sculptural headwear with a futuristic aesthetic for individuals who enjoy transcending time and space. Eco-friendly and natural materials like fish leather, buntal straw and upcycled cashmere are incorporated into the collection, to create minimalistic and modern designs with a goal of zero-waste.
Musicians Erykah Badu, Tom Waits and Neil Young have bought Jasmin’s headwear. She recently taught at the International Millinery Forum in Australia in January 2012. She currently makes her home in New York City, teaching Millinery to fashion design students at Parsons The New School for Design.
