About Us

Jasmin Zorlu Millinery established her own millinery label in 1992, after having graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Art History and Studio Art.  In her junior year, she took a course in Millinery offered by the theatrical department and immediately fell in love with the art. After graduation, she moved to New York City, apprenticing with the hatter Rod Keenan and collaborating with artists, filmmakers and costume designers.

When she collaborated with Goorin Brothers in San Francisco, she developed new silhouettes by taking existing, traditional fabric hat styles and hybridizing them, creating best-sellers.

Each hat is individually hand draped and hand stitched out of exciting natural materials like exotic fish leather, buntal straw and recycled cashmere.  Jasmin constantly is looking for new materials, as a world shortage of felt and panama straw has deemed it necessary.

Jasmin Zorlu Millinery specializes in creating handmade sculptural headwear with a futuristic aesthetic for individuals who enjoy transcending time and space. We incorporate eco-friendly and natural materials to create minimalistic and modern designs with a goal of zero-waste.  The Mission here on Earth is to put hats back on heads, in order to magnetically attract like-minded Earthlings.

Jasmin Zorlu was voted 'Best Hatmaker' by SF Weekly's 'Best of San Francisco 2009' and is a 2009 'Hatty Award' recipient by Hat Life, the Headwear and Millinery Industry's #1 resource.

Musicians Erykah Badu, Tom Waits and Neil Young have bought Jasmin Zorlu's headwear. She teaches the art of 'Freeform Hat Blocking' and 'Cocktail Hat Making with Horsehair' several times a year. She recently taught at the International Millinery Forum in Australia in January 2012. She currently makes her home in New York City, teaching Millinery to fashion design students at Parsons The New School for Design.
